The post would suit someone who aims to pursue a career in Medicine / Elderly Medicine and who wishes to develop an interest in teaching whilst broadening their clinical and research experience. The successful candidate will also play a key role in the coordination, organization and delivery of the undergraduate clinical teaching program for approximately 2 sessions per week (annual average). A close working relationship with the Undergraduate Medical Education Coordinator ensures a well-structured teaching experience for undergraduate medical trainees.
Ideally, the person will have completed Foundation Training (or equivalent). The post is advertised for a doctor who would function at Tier 1 level, (SHO grade/Junior Clinical Teaching Fellow).
This 12-month post is based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead to support existing junior doctors on ward 25 (acute care of the elderly ward).
Duties include the day-to-day management of patients, including clerking, arranging investigations and dictating discharge summaries. Opportunities for attendance at Care of the Elderly sub-speciality outpatient clinics and work with the Acute Frailty team will also be available.
In addition to clinical duties, the candidate will spend approximately two sessions per week teaching undergraduate medical students and will be trained as a simulation training faculty member whilst in post.
