Weare looking for an enthusiastic 1st level NMC registered adult Band5 Nurse to join our team on Haygarth ward. Haygarth ward is a 24/7 22 beddedward service with a multidisciplinary team providing holistic care for a largegroup of patients with varying ophthalmic conditions. We are a large team which includes RegisteredNurses, Healthcare Assistants, Ophthalmologists, Ward Doctors and Admin.
This is a part time post for 22.5 hours per week.
Main duties of the job
Sunderland EyeInfirmary is both nationally and internationally renowned and offersspecialities in Cataract, Medical Retinal, Glaucoma, Ocular Motility,Paediatric and Oculoplastic Surgery. We are looking to recruit a dynamic,motivated and enthusiastic 1st level NMC Registered Adult nurse. We require anexcellent communicator with a proven ability to lead, motivate and supportnursing staff. You will cover bothweekdays and weekends.
Mainduties are:
* To provide holistic care forour wide range of patients.
* Complete accurate documentationelectronically.
* Admitting, preparing patientsfor surgery, recovering and discharging Day Case Patients who have had eyesurgery under local and general anaesthetic.
* Nurse led Pre-assessment.
* Taking Lead in the ArtificialEye Clinic.
* Admitting emergency admissionsfrom our Accident and Emergency Department or other outpatient areas.
The successfulcandidate will need to be highly motivated, enthusiastic, reliable and have adesire to work in Ophthalmology. It is essential applicants have current NMC,adult registered nurse registration and experience relevant to the role. Adegree in nursing studies and a mentorship certificate is desirable. Shifts arevaried and cover Monday to Sunday. Long day shifts are 07.30-20.15, Night duty20.00 -07.45, Pre-assessment 08.30 16.30, we also work 07.30 -15.30 and 12.1520.15 to ensure the needs of the service is met.

Person Specification
Skills and Knowledge
* Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information.
* Able to work without supervision.
* Competent in the use of IT such as Microsoft Office.
* Evidence of CPD.
* Knowledge of national health and social care policy.
* Knowledge of evidence based guidelines e.g. NICE guidelines, NPSA alerts, current nursing legislation.
* Venepuncture and cannulation competency.
Qualifications
* Current NMC Registration (Level 1 adult nurse) or evidence of qualification if newly qualified.
* Degree in nursing studies or healthcare related subject (UK equivalent).
* Mentorship certificate/ Practice Assessor training or demonstrable equivalent experience.
Experience
* Experience of working in an acute hospital or community healthcare setting.
* Recent experience of working as a registered nurse.
Physical Skills
* Ability to assist patients to move as per Trust Moving and Handling Policy.
