Job Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate/Fellow to undertake research as part of an exciting UK-CGIAR (CABI) funded grant titled: "Deciphering the root-soil interface to develop efficient N2 fixing, climate-smart pigeon pea cultivars with improved yields".
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
1. Investigate how root traits, through their interactions with rhizobia and soil properties, contribute to plant resilience under heat stress, enhancing nitrogen fixation and overall plant performance.
2. Collaborate closely with another post-doctoral researcher on the project.
3. Integrate studies on root-soil-microbe interaction, genetic analysis, and omics techniques.
4. Leverage expertise from root biologists, soil biophysicists, and nodulation signaling specialists.
Collaboration
This collaborative approach aims to advance the development of climate-smart pigeon pea cultivars with improved yields. The role provides an excellent opportunity to work as part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary team, involving UK institutions (University of Nottingham and University of Warwick) and CGIAR partners (ICRISAT-India, CIMMYT, and their National Agricultural Research Systems partners).
Qualifications
The candidate must have:
1. A PhD in Plant Biology, Crop Science, Soil Science, Molecular Ecology, or related biological science (or near completion).
This is a full-time, 3-year fixed-term post available from April 2025.
