Educational Requirements / Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. A core professional training and qualification in mental health e.g. Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Counsellor, Psychologist, Social Worker
2. Successful completion of UK DBT Accredited Intensive Training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
Additional Requirements
Essential criteria
3. Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English, adequate to enable the post holder to carry out the role effectively.
4. Subject to the provisions of the Equality Act, able to travel using own vehicle on Trust business.
Job Specific Experience
Essential criteria
5. Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of patients with a personality disorder
6. Experience of being able to maintain a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and threats of physical abuse.
7. Positive experience of supervision and reflective practice in the application of DBT
Desirable criteria
8. Post qualification therapeutic experience with mental health patients with challenging behaviours
9. Experience of teaching, training and / or supervision
10. Mindfulness practice
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
11. Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies for people with a personality disorder.
12. Knowledge of DBT principles, practice and process.
13. Skills relevant to the application of DBT principles and practice.
14. Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, risk assessment, intervention and management of people with a personality disorder, requiring sustained and intense concentration.
Desirable criteria
15. High level knowledge of the theory and practice of DBT for patients with a personality disorder.
16. Knowledge of legislation in relation to personality disordered patients and mental health.
Personal Qualities / Aptitudes
Essential criteria
17. Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour
Desirable criteria
18. Experience of working within a multicultural framework.
