Since 2019, we've welcomed over 150 employees, and we're eager to add passionate talent like you to our growing team.
About the Role
You’ll be working with some of the largest energy users in the UK to help them secure the best prices for their energy usage with short- and long-term forecasting and trading. You will be responsible for monitoring, analysing, and forecasting energy market trends to support trading strategies and help clients make informed decisions on their energy purchasing.
This role demands a blend of analytical skills, market knowledge, and an ability to interpret large volumes of data to identify trading opportunities. Success will be measured through the accuracy of recommendations, the clarity and timeliness of reports provided to stakeholders, and the contribution to overall profitability and risk management.
Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
* Monitoring and analysing energy market trends and prices across the UK power market in real-time to identify trading opportunities and risks
* Prepare daily, weekly and monthly market risk reports including VaR, options and stress testing.
* Analyse and quantify the risk of the company’s portfolio across commodities and products.
* Develop and maintain complex spreadsheet models to forecast energy prices, analyse market movements and illustrate consumption patterns
* Pricing, market and fundamentals monitoring
* Accurate and regular reporting on market/trends/price fluctuations/HH imbalance position
* Collaborate with Head of Trading & Risk to deliver improvements to in-house forecasting and support strategic decision-making
* Contribute to the continuous development of trading dashboards and tools
* Prepare and present regular market reports, highlighting price movements, trends, and forecasts.
* Support a risk conscious culture and promote best practice controls within the organisation through interaction with commercial and control teams across geographies.
The role will be based from our Jarrow office, our standard working hours are Monday to Thursday: 8:30am-5:00pm, and Friday: 9:00am-3:00pm however given the nature of the role you will need to be able to work flexibly.
What you’ll bring:
You’ll have started your career in a financial analysis or market research role, and must have at least 1 year’s experience of working in a trading / forecasting environment. Alongside exceptional analytical skills and the ability to interpret and present complex data in a clear and actionable manner, you’ll demonstrate a willingness to take on further responsibility and build a career in the UK Energy industry.
The position would be a perfect fit for a candidate with the below skills and qualities:
* A passion for trading or asset optimisation, ideally including familiarity with energy trading systems, platforms, and market data sources.
* Motivated to become an expert in the power market including electricity pricing, hedging, and risk management strategies.
* Excellent data and statistical analysis tools – highly proficient in advanced Excel functions, including macros, pivot tables, and complex formulas. VBA programming and data visualisation experience (e.g. PowerBI) would be advantageous.
* Experience working within an energy consultancy, energy supplier, or related industry is highly desirable.
* An awareness of regulatory frameworks and policies affecting energy markets.
* Knowledge of Value-At-Risk, stress testing, scenario analysis, and other market risk techniques.
* Proactive with the ability to thrive in a team environment under often disparate and conflicting pressures
* A bachelor’s degree in STEM, Economics, Data Science or a similar field is desired but not essential.
We are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and transparent workplace. If you’re excited about this role but your experience and skills don’t align perfectly, we encourage you to apply. You may be just the right candidate for one of our other available roles, and we will help you find it!
