About Take Her Lead (THL)
THL’s mission is to create a more inclusive environment for women and girls in cricket. Guided by research and insight THL designs and delivers programmes and initiatives to foster lasting change.
Why?
We have seen women’s cricket rise with more coverage, viewership and increased pay at the top level but while progress is being made many still question whether they belong in the game:
* There is an under representation of women in the game at every level: Recreational = 19%, Professional = 28%, County workforce = 26%*
* Even though 31% of players are girls only 20% of clubs have a specific women and girls offering. *
* Girls in ethnically diverse groups are not making it onto the pathway: CAG = 16.2%, EPP = 15.4% and Academy = 10%**
* 43% of teenage girls who once described themselves as ‘sporty’ are disengaging from sport compared to 24% boys***
*ICEC report. ** ECB progress update report Sept 2024. *** Women in sport 2022
Take Her Lead is here to support the change. This is achieved by connecting young girls from all backgrounds with inspirational female role models through the THL Champions and Rookie Programmes. Female voices are amplified to ensure cricket reflects their needs through research and campaigns. Women are empowered to fulfil their potential through the THL’s women’s network. Ultimately, so that women and girls can all thrive in and beyond cricket.
