A great opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, experienced and dynamic nurse to join the Colorectal Nurse Team at Ipswich Hospital
We are looking for an experienced nurse who has knowledge and experience in colorectal nursing. You must have the passion and drive to provide high quality patient centred care.
You will deliver a high quality specialist nursing service to our patients at the beginning of the cancer pathway assessing patients referred to the team with suspected colorectal cancers. The role will include telephone triage of patients assessing their fitness for investigations as well as supporting the Colorectal Cancer CNS team as required. Experience of looking after cancer patients and clinical skills in stoma care would be helpful in the role.
You will work closely with a multi disciplinary team, you will be a valued member of the team and you will have input in developing the colorectal service.
This is a challenging and demanding role and requires a proactive, self-motivated, dedicated person who is capable of understanding complex care pathways across multiple agencies and services to ensure the highest quality of care and service delivery for our patients. You will have excellent communication skills, be able to manage your own work load and have problem solving skills. You will be an excellent team player but equally be able to work in a self-directed manner.

• The GI Cancer Support Nurse will play a pivotal role in assessing GP referrals for patients with Lower GI (colorectal cancers) by reviewing the GP referral proforma and/or via telephone assessment.
• Liaise with GP practices, patients, the Cancer Hub staff, Endoscopy booking staff, outpatient booking staff, consultant secretaries and consultants as required.
• Assess the most suitable first face to face contact in secondary care and ensure that cancer standards are adhered to.
• Ensure Oral bowel cleansing solution (OBCS) is supplied when required.
• Support the development of other ‘one stop’ assessment and treatment clinics and direct access endoscopy.
• Support the colorectal cancer CNS service.
