About the Role As the SZC Site Fire Safety Lead, you’ll be the driving force behind fire safety across one of Europe’s largest construction sites. From ensuring compliance with UK fire legislation to leading the implementation of a site-wide fire safety strategy, your work will protect the site’s workforce, infrastructure, and local community. Reporting directly to the Site Head of Health, Safety, and Wellbeing, you’ll take on the critical role of ‘Competent Person,’ as defined under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. You’ll also collaborate closely with the SZC Site Operations Team to maintain fire response capability and ensure the highest standards of fire safety are embedded into every stage of the project lifecycle. What You'll Do Shape Fire Safety Excellence: Lead the fire safety agenda, ensuring SZC remains fully compliant and operates to the highest standards. Strategic Leadership: Establish and maintain key fire safety forums and produce detailed performance reports for senior leaders. Proactive Risk Management: Maintain the SZC fire risk register, carry out inspections, and ensure risks are identified and mitigated. Collaborative Impact: Partner with stakeholders, project teams, and contractors to embed fire safety in the planning, construction, and operational phases. Continuous Improvement: Influence the future of fire safety by identifying trends, sharing knowledge, and building skills across the project. About You This is a role for a fire safety professional who thrives on complexity and innovation. You’ll be confident, proactive, and ready to lead in a high-risk, high-stakes environment. What You’ll Bring: Essential: • Membership of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM) or equivalent. • NEBOSH Fire Risk Assessment Certificate (or equivalent). • Proven experience managing fire safety in complex, high-risk environments. • Strong knowledge of national and international fire safety standards. • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and inspire at all levels. Desirable: • Chartered membership of IOSH or equivalent. • NEBOSH Construction Certificate. • Experience leading fire safety in large-scale engineering or construction projects, particularly nuclear.
