Senior Accountant

Company Overview: Their comprehensive range of accounting services help businesses comply with all relevant reporting regulations. As well as full statutory year-end financial statements, they provide monthly or quarterly management accounts and assistance with the preparation of budgets and projections.
Job Description: They are looking for an ACCA, or equivalent, Qualified Accountant, to join their friendly practice in Cowplain, under the direction of the business owners. This post is office-based and they would prefer the applicant to live within a 10 mile radius of Cowplain. Salary is negotiable, depending on qualifications and experience.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Preparation of accounts from a diverse portfolio of clients, including Sole Traders, Partnerships, Limited Companies, and LLPs.
2. Review, oversee and support the training of colleagues in various areas of accountancy.
3. Work closely with clients, colleagues, and managers to obtain the required information to prepare clients’ accounts.
4. Communicate politely and professionally with clients over the phone, by email, and in person.
5. Meet with new and potential clients and quote for accountancy services.
6. Accurately record new client information to add to onboarding and provide PAYE, bookkeeping, and admin colleagues with accurate information to allow commencement of those services.
7. Ensure HMRC/Companies House tax and statutory information is kept up to date.
8. Advise clients on their tax position, making them aware of any new HMRC regulations, tax thresholds, and allowances.
9. Complete, review, and prepare bookkeeping, VAT returns, and CIS returns.
10. Liaise with HMRC on behalf of clients to resolve queries.
11. Participate in activities necessary to support the smooth running of the office environment.
12. Undertake any other tasks as requested by the director and comply with all employee policies and procedures of SHCA Ltd.
Relevant Experience:
1. Must have at least five years’ experience in an accountancy practice.
2. Experience of using accountancy software packages: Xero, Quickbooks, Free Agent, Sage.
3. Sound understanding and up-to-date knowledge of tax.
Skills:
1. Confident in Microsoft packages, specifically Excel and Word.
2. Excellent written and verbal communication.
3. Great attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
4. Effective at time management, able to work to tight deadlines and deal with newly emerging priorities without compromising attention to detail.
5. Proactive and positive attitude.
Personal Qualities:
1. MUST be a team player, friendly, positive, professional, and able to communicate clearly.
2. Good sense of humor and ability to remain calm under pressure.
3. Willingness to carry out ad hoc duties, such as answering the phone and greeting clients in Reception.
