Our Turntide for Electrification solutions help ease the customer journey and accelerate their transition. We are hiring for an Electrical Machines Design Engineer to drive forward the development of our range of axial flux motors, as well as support current machine design optimisation. The role is based at our site in Gateshead and reports into the Thermofluids and eMag Engineering Lead. Job Role In this role the Electrical Machine Design Engineer will be responsible for the following: Design and Develop motors from concept to production. Advance ongoing research and development of new electric motor technologies. Innovate and create new concepts and ideas through applied research, practical product and prototype development. eMag and linked thermal simulations of motor designs as part of the product development cycle within a multi-disciplined team. Involvement in the creation of project plans, with input to technical delivery, time plans and budgeting. Development and undertaking of test plans necessary (DVP&R) to validate product designs. Supporting the Quality department in investigations and inspection activities as well as assisting with improvements to company processes/procedures including manufacturing. Participation in feasibility studies to support commercial opportunities, including the creation of proof-of-concept designs and any supporting design calculations to assist sizing. Design support of products through multiple development phases, including design, prototyping, and validation testing sequences. Supporting supply chain development and improvements. Supporting the Product team with the development of market analyses and gaining insights into customer needs. Experience and Skills We’re looking for candidates with the following experience and skills: Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently. Industry experience as a Motor Design Engineer. Proficient knowledge of Ansys Motor Design software or similar. Simulation experience with eMag & Thermal design of machines. Excellent understanding of fundamental eMag principles, as well as application to design objectives. Strong electromagnetic design and modelling experience. Ability to work within a multi-disciplined team. Strong ability to create technical documentation and presentations. It would also be great (but not essential) if in addition to the above you also had: Experience with prototype build phases or within a manufacturing environment. Experience with Axial flux machines. Experience with Failure mode analysis. Experience with DFMEA. Qualifications A degree or equivalent in the following discipline is required: Electrical Engineering (Minimum 2:2). A Masters or PhD in a relevant discipline is also desirable. Relevant experience could also be considered.
