Main duties of the job
As a Registered Nurse with Leonard Cheshire, you will be responsible and accountable for providing the highest standards of nursing, clinical and personal support to our customers as outlined in Person Centred Plans. You will order and administer medication, ensure safe storage, and record all information in accordance with internal procedures and NMC guidelines.
Effectively leading a team of support staff, you will ensure the smooth and efficient management of the shift. You will prioritise and plan, delegating relevant activities for the support team, ensuring the needs of our customers are met within a safe and caring environment.
You will support ongoing assessments, observing any changes in health and well-being. You will ensure that records are maintained in a timely way and support customers with physical care, personal hygiene needs and daily tasks.
To be successful in this role you will have:
* Current NMC registration as a Registered Nurse.
* A thorough and up-to-date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice at the level of a qualified nurse (level 5).
* An understanding of the NMC code of conduct and relevant practice standards and guidance.
* Effective nursing practice in all basic registered nurse procedures.
* Flexibility to work rostered hours and on-call rota as required.

Job responsibilities
To be responsible and accountable for providing the highest standards of nursing, clinical and personal support, while promoting independence and choice, to the customers. Directly lead and supervise a team of support staff as required at the respective service, ensuring the smooth and efficient management of the respective shift by assessing, prioritising, planning, delegating and monitoring work activities of the support team.
Key responsibilities include:
* Accountable for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating person centred plans for customers.
* Responsible for managing a team of support staff including daily and formal supervision.
* Provide and maintain a high quality, efficient service delivery which promotes customer independence by leading through example.
* Monitor teamwork areas and work practices to ensure safety and relevant legislation, policies, standards and guidance are followed.
* Contribute to the ongoing assessment of customers, including assessment of new customers.
* Responsible for nursing support, ensuring that customers' nursing needs are recorded to a high professional standard.
* Responsible for the ordering, safe storage and administration of medicines.
* Support customers with their physical care, personal hygiene needs and daily life tasks.
* Participate in the training and development of support staff.
* Assist in the assessment and monitoring of wider staffing requirements.
* Work in partnership with others including colleagues in other teams at the service.
* Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
* Comply with all Health and Safety policies and procedures.
* Participate in supervision, staff meetings and training activities.
* Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested.
Person specification
To be a registered nurse, holding current registration with NMC.
Key competencies and skills include:
* Demonstrate an empathetic and caring approach.
* Able to work under own initiative and as an effective team member.
* Demonstrate sound observational skills.
* Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
* Computer literate, able to use standard Microsoft packages.
* To be discreet and able to maintain confidentiality.
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse with current UK NMC PIN number.
