Project Buyer

Jackson Hogg Procurement division is pleased to partner with a growing manufacturing organization in Billingham for the appointment of a Project Buyer to join their purchasing team. This role is full time and permanent.
Reporting to the Head of Procurement, the successful applicant will support the Engineering department with core procurement activities to ensure alignment with business requirements. The ideal candidate will possess a strong blend of technical and commercial acumen and the ability to manage internal stakeholders under challenging deadlines. Experience in a design engineering/manufacturing environment is preferred.

This is an on-site role with working hours of Monday to Friday 07:30-16:00 or 08:00-16:30.
The Role:
1. Responsible for the project procurement of key materials required for new product development, sourcing new products and raw materials, and identifying new suppliers to support projects from prototyping through to product launch.
2. Day-to-day management and execution of project-related open orders, expediting materials in line with project deliverables with a focus on quality documentation and planning.
3. Working closely with external suppliers and internal manufacturing project teams, balancing challenges to achieve quality, timelines, and cost-effectiveness from suppliers.
4. Negotiating delivery timetables with suppliers based in the UK, Europe, and China, focusing on balancing conflicting needs and requirements.
5. Support cross-functional business objectives and key initiatives.
6. Ownership of cost savings and continuous improvement initiatives.
7. Assist with the development of procurement processes and procedures to eliminate non-value-add activities.
8. Able to communicate clearly with people at all levels, both internal and external to the client.
9. Self-motivated, flexible, and able to work under pressure on their own initiative.
Person Specification:
1. Ability to read engineering drawings is essential for this role.
2. Engineering/Prototyping background.
3. Experience and understanding of core project procurement activities, ideally in new product development in an engineering/technical/project-based environment.
4. A strong blend of commercial and technical acumen.
5. Knowledge and experience of working to stringent technical quality standards.
6. Ability to manage internal stakeholders working to tight deadlines.
7. Minimum of 2 years track record of buying raw materials and equipment, ideally within a manufacturing or engineering-related environment.
8. Able to demonstrate cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives.
9. Educated to at least HNC, Level 3 CIPS, or in an appropriate technical or commercial subject.
