The Role
The Workshop Controller you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the workshop, ensuring that all maintenance and repair work is carried out efficiently and to a high standard.
This role involves supervising a team of technicians, managing workflow, and maintaining a safe and productive work environment.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
Supervising and coordinating the activities of workshop staff, including technicians and apprentices.
Providing training, guidance, and support to team members to enhance their skills and performance.
Assigning tasks and projects to technicians based on their skills and workload.
Planning and scheduling work to ensure timely completion of repairs and maintenance tasks.
Monitoring and inspecting work performed by technicians to ensure it meets quality and safety standards.
Conducting final inspections and test drives to verify the quality of repairs and maintenance.
Assisting technicians with complex diagnostics and repairs, providing hands-on support as needed.
Staying updated on the latest automotive technologies, repair techniques, and industry best practices.
Communicating with customers to explain repair needs, provide estimates, and discuss service options.
Addressing customer concerns and ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
Managing inventory levels of parts and supplies, ensuring availability for scheduled work.
Maintaining workshop tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition and compliant with safety regulations.
Enforcing safety protocols and ensure a safe working environment for all staff.
Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, including environmental and health and safety standards.
Maintaining accurate records of work performed, parts used, and labour hours.
Preparing reports on workshop performance, including productivity, efficiency, and quality metrics.
The Person
The ideal candidate for the Workshop Controller role will possess:
Proven experience in an automotive repair or maintenance role, including experience in a supervisory or leadership position.
Be self-driven with experience of working with others to deliver customer satisfaction
Demonstrate strong leadership and team management abilities.
Showcase Excellent mechanical and technical skills.
Be proficient in using diagnostic tools and repair equipment.
Demonstrate Good communication and customer service skills, alongside strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
The ability to work to strict deadlines.
