Job Specification: Electrical Controls Engineer Location; Barnsley - Hybrid Job Summary / Purpose of Role The Electrical Controls Engineer is responsible for the complete project lifecycle of Automated Control Systems. This includes programming Siemens PLC, HMI, SCADA systems, and safety-related functions, as well as the creation of FSD/SDS, FAT/SAT, and other relevant design documentation. Job Responsibilities / Key Accountabilities Preparation of estimates, tenders, design specifications, and tender specifications. Minimum of 6 years’ experience as a Controls Engineer. Production of FDS/SDS documentation. Ability to design and program PLC / HMI / SCADA systems for various industries using Siemens, Mitsubishi, and other relevant equipment. Design of electrical distribution and motor control centres, and PLC control systems (AutoCAD). Involvement in projects from enquiry and concept design through to detailed design. Attending client and sub-contractor meetings to provide technical expertise and project support. Production of test documents (FAT/SAT) and attending panel manufacturers' premises for Factory Acceptance Testing. Keeping up to date with the latest developments in electrical engineering. Authoring of Operation & Maintenance (O&M) Manuals. Job Requirements / Knowledge and Experience Essential Knowledge and Experience An engineering qualification at least to level 4 (HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent). At least 6 years’ experience as a Controls Engineer. Relevant design (AutoCAD) experience in an Electrical Design / Controls Engineer role. Experienced in control panel/MCC design, ideally with Siemens equipment. Knowledge of industrial control systems, including electrical distribution equipment, motor control centres, and PLC control panels. Experience in project management of electrical engineering and controls projects. Experience in a turnkey project environment. Highly organized with strong attention to detail. Excellent problem-solving skills. Ability to work proactively both individually and as part of a small team. Working knowledge of BS EN 60204 and BS 7671. Ability to produce and manage RAMS (Risk Assessment Method Statements). Desirable Knowledge and Experience Knowledge and understanding of AC/DC drive systems. Familiarity with related hydraulic systems. Experience with Safety-Related Control Systems to BS EN IEC 62061 or BS EN ISO 13849. Experience in installation and commissioning procedures is advantageous.
