Job summary
The purpose of this 1 year fellowship is to provide an exciting opportunity for senior upper GI trainees (ST6 and above) to acquire additional knowledge and skills in robotic surgery, with the possibility of further training in emergency general and elective upper GI surgery; together with learning opportunities in endoscopy including OGD, EUS and ERCP. The Trust has a recognised Robotic Unit and the appointee will help define the role of Robotic UGI surgery.
To enable the Fellow to contribute to data collection, research and training others in robotic UGI and become an independent Consultant Surgeon who is able to undertake robotic surgery and help train other surgeons.
Main duties of the job
We enjoy close working relationships with the departments of histopathology, radiology, oncology, palliative care and gastroenterology. The Fellow could have training opportunities in all aspects of gallstone management including laparoscopic cholecystectomy, laparoscopic bile duct exploration, endoscopic diagnosis and management of choledocholithiasis, hot Gallbladder surgery, management of complex acute and chronic pancreatitis, complex reflux assessment and anti-reflux surgery, staging of upper GI malignancy including EUS.
There are approximately 10 theatre sessions, 5 endoscopy lists and EUS/ERCP lists per week. The appointee will see all aspects of hernia surgery including laparoscopic repair. The unit has access to three fully integrated Laparoscopic theatres.
The clinical Fellow will not be on the on-call rota.
