Job Description:
As the technical product specialist in your category, you will maintain our client's reputation as the UK's most trusted retailer. Working closely with their supply base and category teams, you will drive category growth plans and help craft strategic direction. The role is varied, and no two days are the same! You will lead on quality, innovation, food safety, integrity, ethical, and sustainability credentials of food products, working with passionate colleagues to continually learn and improve product ranges.
Using your technical knowledge, expertise, and judgment, you'll ensure the delivery of innovative, high-quality, safe, and legal products that align with brand values and meet sales and profit targets. You will identify and manage strategic technical initiatives and be accountable for key workstreams. Your skills will also help deliver innovative technical solutions to drive sales and customer satisfaction, supporting your colleagues to achieve category objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
* Category & Supply Base: Collaborate with suppliers to ensure products are made safely to standards; develop innovative products and quality standards; source and develop suppliers to meet strategic needs; support business continuity and peak volume planning.
* NPD & Innovation: Create and implement research and innovation plans; contribute to technical vision and strategy for the product area.
* Quality: Monitor and maintain product quality; develop action plans with suppliers for continuous improvement.
* Governance: Ensure compliance with Food Law; implement Quality Management Systems; audit suppliers; manage product testing programs; reduce customer complaints.
* Technology: Provide technical advice; represent the business externally; collaborate on initiatives; leverage new systems; benchmark industry standards; participate in project teams.
This is a 12-month fixed-term contract (covering maternity leave), ideal for a Senior Interim Technical Manager or a senior TM with a food manufacturing background seeking premium retail experience. The role starts in July 2024, with an expectation to work at head office (London) 2-3 days per week.
