Job Summary
The creation of the IPU Clinical & Environmental Assistant role is to support and assist the nursing staff in delivering a high standard of care. This role ensures that patients are cared for in a safe, welcoming, and comforting environment while maintaining a high quality of cleanliness in both patient and staff areas. The post is responsible for monitoring IPU equipment, providing clean linen in line with patient needs, replenishing and organizing delivered stock, minimizing the risk of cross-infection, and complying with hospice health and safety regulations. Additionally, the post holder will cultivate effective communication channels to ensure continuity of patient care and, when required, carry out errands as instructed by nursing staff. Patient privacy and dignity must be respected at all times.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Maintain good housekeeping of treatment and storage areas by replenishing and organizing stock as required while working with housekeeping staff to ensure a high quality of cleanliness.
2. Liaise with various departments and other members of staff and/or volunteers to ensure the expected standards of cleanliness of the ward are maintained.
3. Contribute to the promotion of a safe working environment, reducing hospice-acquired infection, and complying with hospice operational policies and procedures.
4. Maintain asset register, prepare equipment/appliances for servicing, and complete the required documentation while reporting faulty equipment/appliances.

Job Responsibilities
1. Provide a level of customer care relevant to the needs of the patients and carers.
2. Maintain good housekeeping of treatment and storage areas, ensuring that stock is replenished and stored as necessary and ward areas are tidy.
3. Ensure that a high quality of cleanliness is observed within the In-patient unit, supporting with the audit of cleaning standards as required.
4. Under the direction of the nurse, report any faulty equipment or appliances, ensuring preparation and completion of all relevant documentation prior to being sent for repair.
5. Prepare and complete required documentation for equipment requiring servicing.
6. Locate equipment and submit to CRH.
7. Maintain asset register.
8. Liaise with WA volunteers to ensure the necessary housekeeping and cleanliness of ward equipment is maintained.
9. Undertake errands as required to support the service.
10. Assist with patient audits (e.g., friends and family / patient satisfaction).
11. Liaise with linen service, coordinating stock replenishment as required.
12. Maintain adequate departmental supplies, ensuring stock rotation of disposable equipment and the audit of expiry dates.
13. Comply with Health and Safety regulations by undertaking all duties safely and responsibly.
14. Contribute to the reduction of hospice-acquired infection by ensuring that all infection control standards for ward and personal hygiene are maintained.
15. Work collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
16. Comply with hospice operational policies and procedures and observe their requirements.
17. Carry out all duties in a courteous, sympathetic, and professional manner at all times.
18. Respect patients' privacy and dignity, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
