We’re seeking a highly self-aware, professionally mature individual to join a highly dynamic team at a leading organisation.
About the Role
This is a hands-on position where you’ll play a key role in ensuring product quality and safety. Working across both Chemistry and Microbiology laboratories, you’ll conduct essential testing, manage stock, and collaborate with colleagues to uphold our high standards. The role operates on a three-shift rotating pattern:
Monday to Friday, 6am–2pm
Monday to Friday, 2pm–10pm
Sunday to Thursday, 10pm–6am
Please only apply if you can fully commit to this shift pattern, including Bank Holidays, with flexibility to adapt to other shifts or weekends as required to meet business needs.
Key Responsibilities:
*Carry out tests in Chemistry and Microbiology labs, including media preparation and operation of equipment (Autoclaves, FTIR Spectroscopes, NIR Spectrometers).
*Perform environmental and plant hygiene swabs.
*Participate in taste panels and manage reference samples when required.
*Ensure personal and colleague safety by adhering to strict safety protocols.
*Work independently within an agreed schedule, prioritising tasks to meet lab KPIs.
*Rotate stock, conduct stock-takes, and report stock needs to management.
*Maintain a clean and safe lab environment through scheduled housekeeping and proper waste disposal.
*Use lab databases (e.g., LIMS) competently to log and track results.
*Monitor competency through internal/external audits and conduct scheduled internal audits.
*Collate and report out-of-spec results daily, escalating issues to relevant colleagues and management.
*Act on non-complying results with re-sampling and re-testing as needed.
*Manage positive release systems for ingredients and finished products.
*Respond promptly to product release requests via email or telephone.
The Candidate:
*Experience: lab experience in a Chemistry or Microbiology setting, ideally within the Food and Beverage industry.
*Skills: Excellent communication, strong organisational abilities, and a logical, analytical mindset.
*Attributes: Motivated, thorough, and driven, with a continuous improvement mentality and a passion for achieving results.
*Tech Savvy: Computer literate and comfortable with lab databases (e.g., LIMS).
*Pressure Performer: Ability to assess workloads, manage breaks, and deliver timely results under pressure.
*Team Player: Confident communicator who can engage effectively with colleagues and senior management.
