The post holder will actively contribute to the development and support of midwifery practice in the maternity department. This will include developing the PDM role to support the Quality Improvement
Lead Nurse / Midwife, all clinical staff, Deputy Head’s of Midwifery, Head of Midwifery and Director of Midwifery.
The post holder will be responsible for leading on and implementing a variety of practice development initiatives as agreed with the Quality Improvement Lead Nurse / Midwife taking into consideration national and local drivers for training. This will be aligned to the ESHT Maternity Training Needs Analysis.
Promote and support innovation in practice and support professional staff to contribute to planning, delivery and evaluation of education and training opportunities within the service.
A key component of the role is involvement in the quality improvement (QI) agenda under the supervision of the Quality Improvement Lead Nurse / Midwife- to include:
• Identifying and innovating on project work linked to improving clinical practice,
• Following evidence-based QI methodology
• Leading on change management
• Monitoring and evaluating the impact on clinical practice to ensure on-going improvements in the quality of care.
• Devising programme of improvements from lesson learned and risk incidences
• To ensure service users are included were possible in designing and implementing training within the service.
The post holder will be required to implement, teach and support, as required, practice development initiatives, facilitating midwifery and Obstetric staff to develop safe, effective and person-centred clinical practice.
Acts as a specialist resource for the advancement of Midwifery Practice and Education.
Specialist Lead for evidence-based changes to practice and advice supported by in depth researched best practice.
