Underwriting Assistant – Financial Lines - 12 Month FTC
Angel Risk Management specialises in underwriting products for the small to medium-sized sector on behalf of AXA XL – the global insurer that combines financial security with a nimble and empowered approach.
The majority of Angel online business is underwritten either via the Angel Underwriting bespoke system from the Angel Chelmsford office or the Angel online quick quote system.
A typical Angel broker would usually be a smaller and predominately regionally focused broker, often independently owned.
AXA XL provides property, casualty, professional and specialty products to industrial, commercial and professional businesses, insurers and enterprises through the world.
You will provide admin support to Assistant Underwriters and Underwriters while developing the necessary skill sets required to obtain underwriting authority. Work towards achieving the necessary qualifications to underwrite a profitable account. Tasks include: accurate and timely data entry and processing; information management, monitoring and assisting in chasing premiums; producing data for monthly reporting; using modeling systems to assist underwriting process, contribute to Innovation, development of efficient systems and company culture.
This is a regulated role under the Central Bank of Ireland’s Fitness and Probity regime.
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Learn how to analyse and price risks.
2. Understand how an underwriter comes to the decision on whether to accept or decline a risk.
3. Learn how to read and understand insurance policies.
4. Work alongside class underwriter to develop technical skills and improve ability to price risks.
5. Work alongside brokers to gain a better understanding of the risk being presented.
6. Handling mid-term adjustments on active business.
You will report to the Underwriting Manager.
Required Skills and Abilities:
1. Education, to a minimum A-level standard or equivalent.
2. Ability to achieve goals that are set within the Company and produce good quality results when under pressure.
3. Excellent communication and confidence to liaise with external & internal parties.
4. Highly organised with the ability to prioritise in order to meet various deadlines and keep track of workloads.
5. Good standard of numeracy, sound knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint.
6. React to change proactively.
7. Be able to work effectively in a team environment and exhibit the flexibility necessary in an evolving organisation.
8. Motivation to work towards insurance qualifications.
