Senior Underwriter - Property
Vallum Associates are delighted to be partnered with a leading Syndicate who are looking for a Senior Underwriter to join the Property team to focus on business in the UK region.
This position involves underwriting cases across a designated geographical remit, adhering to agreed processes and within risk appetite to achieve business development and retention targets. The role primarily focuses on delivering underwriting decisions, contributing to business development activities, and liaising with customers. It requires collaboration with brokers, network partners, and third parties, working both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:
* Review allocated cases and deliver underwriting decisions in line with agreed processes and authority levels to secure profitable business within the defined risk appetite.
* Act as a referral point for junior staff members and contribute to peer review processes to support an effective control environment.
* Provide advice and guidance in the development of new policy wordings or the review of existing policy wordings to ensure accuracy and relevance.
* Identify, recommend, and lead or contribute to marketing activities and product development initiatives to expand the business mix and increase customer penetration.
* Travel within the designated geographical remit as required.
* Proactively identify and pursue up-selling (add-ons) and cross-selling opportunities to maximise profitable revenue potential from new and renewal business.
* Manage customer interactions efficiently, courteously, and in a timely manner to maintain high standards of customer satisfaction.
* Offer expert advice, guidance, and coaching to less experienced colleagues to address technical referrals and enhance standards across the underwriting team.
* Collaborate with the Actuarial Department when necessary to determine appropriate pricing for specific accounts.
* Liaise with the Claims Department regarding claims activity and broader market concerns that may impact profitability.
* Stay up to date with industry trends, developments, and regulatory changes.
* Maintain accurate records and assist in minimising aged debt by working closely with the Accounts Receivable team to resolve queries promptly.
* Complete regular and ad hoc reporting as required.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
* 5-10 years of experience underwriting Property accounts within the Manchester and UK Regional markets.
* Strong marketing, negotiation, and presentation skills.
* In-depth knowledge of standard market policy and endorsement wordings.
* A professional insurance designation such as ACII or FCII is desirable.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload effectively.
* Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and teamwork skills.
* Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
* Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel.
