Serco are recruiting for a Master to join their current team based at Ross-shire in Scotland.
The key purpose of the role is to overall command with regards operation of the vessel in compliance with Flag and Class legislation/guidance and Serco Marine, Integrated Management System and Serco Limited policies.
The Master has overall responsibility for all vessel shipboard operations (Incl. vessel and crew certification) thereby ensuring their crew and vessel are familiar and prepared to discharge their duties safely and efficiently.
Main Accountabilities:
1. Primary responsibility is to ensure the seaworthiness and safety of their vessel, crew and embarked clients and prevention of pollution.
2. Preparing vessel for voyage and tasking.
3. Chair shipboard management and safety committee meetings (as required).
4. Liaise, consult and advise with operational authority on vessel tasking and operational matters as necessary.
5. Create, maintain and support Operational/Technical and client instructions and fully document undertakings.
6. As the Management representative on board continually review and uphold the operational efficiency, morale and welfare of crew and safety of all personnel embarked.
7. Be fully familiarised with all factors affecting the immediate operation of the ship. Upon taking command, the Master shall familiarise themselves with all details of the construction manoeuvrability, navigation and other equipment.
8. Conversant with latest Merchant Shipping Legislation and the requirements of authorities at each port of call. Ensure that the relevant provisions in such legislation pertaining to the operation of the vessel are fully adhered to.
9. Familiar with the specific status of the vessel and its relation to the standards as generally accepted in the shipping industry. Any deficiencies are to be reported to the Technical/Operations Departments.
10. Issue their “Standing Orders” to the crew for the efficient operation of the ship.
11. These are to include procedures to respond to emergency shipboard situations and the preparedness of the vessel.
12. The Master should as per the Serco IMS establish, maintain and review risk assessments, vessel operations for all tasks and key shipboard operations.
13. Make a daily inspection, when on board, of all parts of the vessel, ensuring that high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and preservation are maintained.
14. Submit at intervals described in the Company Procedures Manuals, various reports on the vessel’s condition and operation to the Operations and Engineering Offices.
15. Be actively involved in the navigation of the vessel and personally supervise the vessel’s navigation when entering or leaving port, when in confined waters, approaching land or any danger, during fog or poor visibility or other adverse weather conditions.
