Role: SEMH Teaching Assistant Contract: Flexible (opportunities to become permanent) Working days: Monday - Friday, Term Time Only Salary: £90 - £100 per day Long-Term Teachers are delighted to support a forward-thinking alternative provision dedicated to giving young people a second chance through a trauma-informed, child-centred approach. We are seeking compassionate, patient and adaptable SEMH Teaching Assistants to provide flexible support to students with social, emotional and mental health needs. In this role, you will play a vital part in helping students develop socially and emotionally, as well as academically. Key responsibilities: Provide tailored 1:1 or small group support for students, addressing their SEMH-related needs and helping them engage with their education Facilitate learning across core subjects and assist with the delivery of creative and therapeutic activities Participate in off-site activities such as outdoor learning, local trips and vocational experiences (e.g construction, hairdressing) Support students in building confidence, resilience and self-esteem through positive reinforcement and consistent guidance Assist in preparing students for a successful reintegration into mainstream education or alternative pathways About you: To excel in this role, you must have: A patient and resilient attitude, with a calm and empathetic approach to challenging behaviour The ability to build trusting and meaningful relationships with students, providing consistent support and encouragement Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and the diverse needs of students Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural difficulties is highly desirable but not essential A valid UK driver’s licence and access to your car is required as you may be involved in transporting students for off-site activities.
