A little more about your role…
As the demand for our expertise continues to grow, an opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Water Engineering teams located in Newcastle upon Tyne, Glasgow, Manchester or Birmingham.
Working within various multidisciplinary project design teams, you will contribute to the delivery of the mechanical engineering design content on a range of challenging projects in water engineering. These projects include water, wastewater and effluent treatment facilities throughout the UK and occasionally overseas. You will contribute to the project design from feasibility and optioneering through to the production of detailed designs for procurement and construction and review of supplier proposals.
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will work within project teams helping us deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients.
Key responsibilities include:
* Undertaking asset condition surveys and preparing reports and recommendations.
* Contributing to the production of Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
* Preparation of mechanical design deliverables including calculations, reports, specifications, datasheets, drawings, schedules and procurement documentation.
* Providing input to resolving issues during construction.
* Providing input to testing and commissioning of mechanical equipment and installations including witnessing equipment acceptance tests.
* Working collaboratively with other disciplines on multi-disciplinary projects delivering work to time, cost and quality expectations.
* Supporting the development of junior staff, including checking work where appropriate.
* Providing input to proposals, work scope, work schedule and budgets.
* Liaison with the Client (internal or external) ensuring that their needs are met.
* Providing support to allow the project team to comply with the duties of Designer under CDM including the production of design risk assessments.
* Ensuring Quality Assurance systems and procedures are followed.

You will join an established UK team of experienced mechanical engineers comprising grades from technician to Associate Director. Whatever level of experience you bring, we are here to support and motivate you to deliver high quality designs for our clients and, in doing so, develop you to your potential.

Qualifications
An IMechE accredited degree level qualification (Bachelors or Masters).
Skills / Experience
We are looking for enthusiastic mechanical engineers with a flexible approach and an ability to learn in a leading global consultancy. You will be highly numerate, be a good communicator, enjoy working in a collaborative environment and be able to apply your skills whilst working with a diverse range of clients and projects.
You will also be able to demonstrate the following:
* Experience of mechanical project design in the process, utility or allied industries.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
* A good technical understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
* At least an awareness and preferably some proficiency in:
o The design of pumping systems and pump selection.
o The use of P&IDs to create equipment, valve and pipe schedules.
o The production of specifications.
o Construction Design & Management (CDM) Regulations and designing for safety.
o Various methods of contract procurement, ideally including the ECC (NEC) forms of contract.
o Managing your work to time, cost and quality criteria.
o Supporting junior staff in their technical development.
* A good client facing manner.
* That you are effective working in a multi-disciplinary team, integrating your work with other discipline areas, and on your own.
* Good powers of observation, specifically of physical arrangements and construction practices.
* That you are diligent, confident and highly motivated.
* The ability to travel to and visit operational and construction sites as required, to act in a safe manner, and to asset survey, inspect, and witness test mechanical installations.
