To support the operational needs of the transport department (Vehicle & Driver) and to ensure the safe, efficient, and effective day to day running of transport operations.
To oversee and manage efficient day to day operational aspects of transports department. Coordinate, with a hands-on approach, and ensure consistent priorities and performance.
Ensure effective communication between Bilsthorpe and other Specialist England sites and contribute towards a “best for business” approach.
To ensure that daily tasks are completed, while maintaining high standards of health and safety.
Key Responsibilities
* Maintaining the highest standards of health and safety, always promoting a positive health and safety culture.
* To manage the day-to-day transport operations ensuring operational requirements are met.
* Responsibility for performance and review of operational procedures and risk assessments.
* Maintain all Transport departmental SSoW and Risk assessments in partnership with the Fleet Compliance Manager and SHEQ Manager and ensure these are reviewed as per company process.
* Perform internal audits as required.
* To review departmental near misses to establish and implement learning and best practices.
* To investigate all departmental accidents/incidents/ RTA ensuring final reports are distributed to the Transport & SHEQ Managers where required.
* Maintaining and improving department performance levels to maximise efficiency in line with departments KPI's.
* Plan, execute, review, and manage all training requirements for the Transport Driver Team including the design of driver training material that evolves in line with legislation and company requirements.
* Ensure all drivers are trained to work safely and carry out specified transport tasks.
* Regularly conduct annual driver assessments including performance reviews, where necessary arrange additional training.
* Ensure driver training register is maintained and reviewed annually with refresher training instigated where necessary.
* Ensure all drivers remain legal in regard to driver licence checks etc and that training records are maintained to ensure drivers always remain operationally available to the company.
* Monitor and manage vehicle telematics and driver Tachograph using company systems.
* Monitor driver hours records ensuring all drivers operate within their legal obligations, address as required with drivers regarding infringements.
* Support the Fleet Compliance Manager in regard to vehicle maintenance and driver education in line with Operator licence requirements.
* Ensure all transport department vehicle equipment is maintained and checked regularly to minimise operational downtime.
* Communicate company standards to staff at all levels, monitor and enforce.
* Any other duties as required.

* Contribute to the performance management and development of employees within defined area of responsibility, including completion of reviews within Performance Review Process and supporting the use of Individual Development Plans.
* Adherence to the Company’s Health and Safety Policy ensuring all employees, within areas of responsibility, are compliant.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Required
* Proactive and safety focused approach.
* Good people manager, proven experience of leading Transport Driver Team.
* Good understanding of O'licence obligations and regulations.
* Excellent knowledge of EU driver hour regulation.
* Hands on and methodical, organised with good attention to detail.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Positive and motivated with flexible and adaptable attitude.
* Highly organised with the ability to prioritise effectively and to plan and manage own agenda.
* Logical in approach with the ability to analyse data and formulate action plans.
* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective and positive working relationships within and outside of the department.
* Good conflict resolution skills based on a ‘Can do’ attitude.
* Must demonstrate high levels of integrity and adopt a professional approach in all interactions – should be transparent, open and honest in all dealings.
* PC and technical knowledge and skills with a good working knowledge of the Microsoft packages including Word and Excel.
* Experienced HGV Class 1 & 2.
* Valid Driver CPC card and Driver Tachograph card.
* Experience of operating tankers / pipework and pumps.
* Experience working within waste industry most desirable, however, alternate industries (manufacturing, oil, gas, fuel, food) with relevant experience will be considered.
* Experience of behavioural safety / culture change.
* ISOH General Certificate (or equivalent).
