PURPOSE OF ROLE
Coordinate and carry out engineering activities to ensure the requirements for a product line or product group are met and complied with, in terms of forecasted output, product quality, adherence to specification, and on-time delivery.
PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Engineering Projects: Assist senior engineers and management in the execution of tasks for engineering projects. Communicate with project stakeholders the status of assigned tasks. Collect, present, and analyze data for reports submitted for the purpose of project evaluation.
2. Team Working: Work alongside other manufacturing engineers and more junior or graduate engineers on joint tasks; day-to-day tasks, medium/long-term projects, training, mentoring, and development.
3. Continuous Improvement: Develop processes and ensure best possible quality and reduce waste; increase efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout, identify, measure, monitor, and report on process indicators or other measurables to help drive improvement.
4. Process Validation and Verification: Use of documented Standard Operating Procedures, Process Capability, and Gauge R&R to continuously verify and validate manufacturing processes.
5. Engineering Documents: Ensure equipment and process Standard Operating Procedures are documented and reviewed regularly for accuracy and compliance.
6. Engineer Training: Train and mentor junior and graduate engineers on key items of manufacturing equipment, engineering disciplines, procedures, and individual performance.
7. Personal Development and Training: Continuously evaluate own training needs with line manager, in order to further develop skills and knowledge and engage with recommended/offered training plans and courses, in line with current and/or forecasted business requirements.
8. Production Training: Assist Production Teams in identifying training needs for new and current operators and deliver training on equipment and processes.
9. Production Discipline: Work with supervisors and production teams to ensure standards of workmanship are met and the working environment is maintained. Work with production supervisors to help resolve instances of poor performance and identify developmental training and personal improvement plans for individual operators.
10. Production Support: Support Production Teams in all matters technical, address technical issues, re-optimization of process, and troubleshooting.
11. Customer Support: Review new and/or up-issued customer documentation to ensure CIL documents and processes are compliant with customer requirements. Communicate discrepancies, errors, and recommended improvements to senior engineers and management for timely and efficient review with the customer.
12. Quality Support: Assist quality engineers to investigate instances of poor quality or customer returns, compile evidence and data for 8D reports, review and evaluate process risk for PFMEAs, and support with both internal and external audits.
13. New Products and Process Introduction: Support senior engineers and management with the introduction of new products and processes; evaluate new customer documents, generate assembly instructions and/or drawings, design jigs and fixtures, devise methods to measure, collect, and evaluate data associated with special and/or critical characteristics.
14. Maintenance: Ensure key equipment remains operational by working with the maintenance teams to service and repair equipment as required, assist maintenance teams in the event of equipment breakdown and preventative maintenance routines.
15. Business Management Systems: Assist senior engineers and management in identifying and documenting, recording, and reporting on procedures, processes, and key performance indicators.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS
1. Minimum: An HNC or HND in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline.
2. Preferable: A degree qualification; BEng/MEng in an engineering or scientific discipline such as electronics, manufacturing, or mechanical engineering.
3. Experience: A minimum of 2 years working in a relevant manufacturing environment.
