We are looking for a dynamic person with a strong engineering background to lead our platforms engineering team, including management of our Engineering stores partner. The platform engineering team act as subject matter experts (SMEs) at GSK’s manufacturing site at Ware (Hertfordshire) to provide expertise for the site’s key production platforms (equipment). The team provides technical engineering guidance and governance to support the site’s broader engineering teams. The role sites within the Platform Engineering Team, which is responsible for the provision of engineering expertise to support manufacturing, automation and controls systems (for all production operations) to ensure we safely, and with the correct quality, achieve the site objectives. The role provides a single point of leadership to an engineering team of circa 7 to 8 direct reports (which may include interim / contract workers). You will also be the owner / accountable person for a defined process (end to end with clear boundaries and interdependencies). This element of the role includes all tasks, systems, data and information flow required for the process to succeed and remain compliant. As the process owner you will have an in-depth understanding of the designated process although it will be managed through a broad network of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). You will have the authority to do what is best for the overall performance of the process (to make improvements) to ensure delivery of the Site strategy. As the process owner you will be the key point of contact for regulatory auditors during inspections. Key Responsibilities include; • The provision and management of the appropriate engineering team engaged in the development and delivery projects or provision of services to meet the needs of the business. • Ensuring the correct skills are maintained and developed within the team to maintain and improve the team capability. • Developing and delivering improvement strategies to deliver business benefits • Being responsible for partnering capital projects to meet the agreed level of quality, cost and time. • Ownership of engineering standards relevant to the service provided. • Responsibility to the site business owners/sponsors (customers) for the timely delivery of their projects and services and the effective delivery of the agreed benefits. • Generating project proposals (including designing and planning) which are technically sound and give optimum investment value. • Developing and maintaining good working relationships with external specialist companies engaged to deliver projects or provide service. • Ensuring that key GSK staff are engaged when developing novel solutions with external suppliers. • Owning the development of site capital plan and site facility plan applicable to area of operation. • Building and maintaining relationships and supporting other sites and above site groups delivering cross division initiatives. • Coaching the team in the use of OE tools and techniques to deliver business benefits. About You: This role would suit a motivated person who has experience of working in a complex GMP environment. You will be a qualified engineer (to degree-level or proven equivalent experience) with strong people-management skills. You will have a proven ability to drive performance (it is imperative in this role that you demonstrate an ability to drive common-objective thinking, with a complete focus on providing solutions). You will have strong scientific/technical knowledge to help support relevant processes at the Ware manufacturing site (eg; how they impact the quality and efficacy of the final product). About Ware Manufacturing Site: Medicines at Ware are presented as either Respiratory devices or in Oral Solid Dose form, and the site has circa 1,500 highly-motivated and capable people working at it. The Ware site holds a unique position in our network as the only site responsible for launching the company’s pipeline of new medicines in oral and solid dose forms, as well as operating a high-volume commercial production for respiratory devices.
