A manufacturer of steel construction-related products supplied nationally, is now seeking a Despatch Manager to join their business based near Walsall.
The company has been operating for over 50 years and has several facilities across the Black Country. Due to a surge in business, turnover has doubled, generating the need for key hires to improve systems, processes, and drive down costs.
This is a brand-new position developed to support the Production Manager in reaching the company's production targets OTIF (On Time In Full) and within budget. The overall Production team consists of around 80 skilled individuals including Welders, Fabricators, Metal workers, Machinists, and Logistics staff.
Reporting to the Production Manager, as the Despatch Manager, you will ensure this facility delivers on the growth it is experiencing. You will lead a team of around 10 people to ensure that customers receive their orders OTIF and of the highest quality. You will take charge of the product after assembly, performing quality checks and ensuring that the product is packaged correctly and loaded for delivery.
Some of the main responsibilities of this Despatch Manager are:
1. Working with the production team to ensure that they build orders against the production and delivery schedule.
2. Conducting quality assessments of each order, ensuring that the product is free from defects and ready for despatch.
3. Taking responsibility for goods in, despatch, and the yard, ensuring health and safety procedures are adhered to.
4. Collaborating with the wider production team and business to ensure that your team has the right materials and tools to perform effectively and cost-efficiently.
5. Training, developing, and mentoring your team, delivering training plans to ensure the team is highly skilled, motivated, and capable.
6. Managing the budget to ensure the department runs to budget and delivers cost savings where possible.
What you will need to be a successful Despatch Manager:
1. Prior experience in leading stores and logistics teams.
2. The ability to manage people effectively within a fast-paced, high-pressure logistics environment.
3. Strong customer service skills and the ability to understand each customer's packaging and delivery requirements.
4. Strong communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships across the business.
