Summary
Apprentices will learn how to build and test HVAC control panels using mechanical and electrical diagrams. They will become familiar with common components used in controls. Successful apprentices will become qualified as a skilled panel wireman and controls test engineer. Apprentices will also be introduced to electrical design & PLC programming.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
* Prepare metal enclosures and backplates using hand tools (Year 1)
* Assist with general production tasks including packing (Year 1)
* Soldering, crimping, wiring electro-mechanical control units using assembly instructions (Year 1-2)
* Wire panels from circuit diagrams (Year 2-4)
* Test and fault find panels (Year 3-4)

Your training plan
The apprenticeship training is delivered through a combination of workplace learning and regular college attendance. This training will teach you the knowledge, skills and behaviours set out in the Manufacturing Support Technician Level 3 standard. On completion the apprentice will receive Level 3 qualification. Functional Skills in maths and English may also be required depending on current level.
