This exciting opportunity involves laying out, fitting, fabricating, and welding metal components to assemble structural forms. You will be part of a busy shipyard team carrying out varied and challenging ship repair projects.
Due to growth, there are various opportunities within the Fabricating team for a Plater, a Welder, and a Fabricator/Welder.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Carry out welding and/or fabrication work as directed, ensuring quality and safety standards are met.
2. Maintain good personal timekeeping and conduct in line with company policies.
3. Ensure good housekeeping standards in all work areas, including workshops, stores, vehicles, and on-site locations.
4. Assist management in servicing, repairs, and maintenance of company machinery and equipment.
5. Plan and prioritise workload within set timescales with minimal supervision.
6. Adhere to internal/external emergency arrangements.
7. Ensure tools/equipment are accounted for and traceable.
8. Comply with safety, regulatory, and company changes/alterations to working practices.
9. Procure necessary products and services for business operations.
10. Be willing to work a reasonable amount of overtime beyond the contracted hours.
Job Requirements:
1. Welder - Proficient in using acetylene and electronic welding equipment (MIG, TIG, MMA, and Flux Core).
2. Understanding of ferrous and non-ferrous metals in relation to welding and brazing.
3. Plater & Welder/Fabricator - Fabrication experience, ideally within marine and/or offshore.
4. Familiarity with occupational hazards and effective safety precautions.
5. Experience with arc air procedures and equipment.
Technical Skills:
1. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
2. Plan and estimate materials required for work.
3. Make precise arm-hand positioning movements and maintain static arm-hand positions.
4. Perform controlled manipulations of small objects with precision.
Personal Abilities:
1. Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights or depths greater than ten feet.
2. Climb ladders or stairs to reach objects.
3. Utilise appropriate cleaning materials to maintain equipment.
4. Learn through instruction and observation, mainly in an on-the-job setting.
5. Exercise independent judgement in duty performance.
6. Work night shifts when required.
7. Operate in various weather conditions with exposure to elements.
8. Accurately measure distances and inspect welds for compliance with standards.
Additional Requirements:
1. Flexibility to perform essential and marginal functions depending on work location or shift.
2. A full UK driving licence is required for business vehicle use.
3. Good spoken and written English communication skills.
4. Preferably a minimum of three years' experience in the marine or civil engineering industry.
5. Willingness to travel as required.
Rates:
£16-£18/h PAYE (£33,280 - £37,440) Basic salary. 40-50 hours standard, Monday to Friday. Up to 12-hour shifts. Day shift. Mon - Friday standard with weekend working in line with project demands.
