There is an exciting opportunity to join Bellway, one of the UK’s largest house builders. Our Northern Home Counties Division is looking to recruit a Development Manger to join the divisions Technical Team.
The Role
The role of Development Manager, reports to the Technical Director.
Principal accountabilities of the Development Manager’s role include:
* Act as the primary point of contact for the project throughout the planning, design and procurement stages.
* Establish a development programme and drive the progress by active management to ensure targets are achieved.
* Prepare reports and risk registers to gain internal approvals and ensure audit compliance.
* Manage the disposal of affordable units within the project. Work with land agents and appointed legal advisors to negotiate and agree land contracts, ensuring any development related matters are fully resolved prior to entering contracts.
* Work with clients and their agents to negotiate and agree the form of building contracts in conjunction with the Land Director and other internal stakeholders as appropriate.
* Appoint and manage consultant teams e.g. architects, engineers, to produce scheme specific information and ensure the timely submission of schemes to the appropriate planning authority and statutory bodies in line with agreed timescales. Ensure all information produced achieves the project objectives.
* Procure and check the accuracy of surveys, reports, assessments etc. required to support the planning process and enable sufficient pre delivery planning/design.
* Maintain good communication with the project team and internal stakeholders to ensure relevant information is correctly shared and circulated, and all actions are progressed in a timely manner.
* When required, organise and lead / attend client meetings acting in a professional manner to represent the company positively always.
* Management fee budgets and report back on variances.
Experience, Qualifications and Skills
Experience
* Experience of working with a high-volume residential house builder.
* Experience of effectively managing teams
* Up to date knowledge of health and safety and building legislation
Qualifications and Training
* Qualified to degree level or HNC/HND in a Construction / Technology subject with relevant experience
* CSCS card or equivalent
* Current full UK driving licence
Skills and Aptitude
* Strong communication, listening, presentation skills and excellent attention to detail
* Ability to be able to express technical information in a clear and concise manner
* Methodical, conscientious, organised and works to deliver high standards
* Ability to recognise problems and deal with them in a speedy and effective manner
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
* Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment
* Ability to problem solve and delegate effectively
* Proficient IT skills along with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and outlook) and the ability to adapt to new systems.
