NDT Level lll/Hull Gauging Manager Purpose: Colonna's Shipyard is seeking an NDT Level lll/Hull Gauging Manager to oversee operations in Norfolk, VA. The NDT and Hull Gauging manager administers and maintains the Nondestructive Testing (NDT) program and inspectors’ certifications including but not limited to VT. MT, PT and UT methods. In addition, the individual performs all required actions needed to maintain and carry out the requirements of Colonna’s Shipyard ABS Hull Gauging Certification Program. Performs and represents Colonna’s Shipyard during internal and third-party NDT and Weld audits. Job Description: Acting Company Level III Representative. Maintains and oversees Colonna’s NDT Program ensuring it meets requirements of ASNT-TC-1A, NAVSEA Tech Pub 271, and third-party customer requirements. Creates, revise, requests, or reviews Colonna’s or contracted NDT company’s NDT procedures and certifications for adequacy and meeting contract requirements. Develops, administers, maintains and/or performs NDT testing, training, inspection, surveillances, NDT inspectors’ records, and eye examinations as authorized or required. Ensures NDT equipment is available, maintained, safeguarded, and meets job requirements. Performs or manages internal or third-party Weld and/or NDT audits throughout the Company. Will be the final authority for interpretation of NDT requirements and/or acceptability of nondestructive test results. Provides ABS Hull Gauging oversight and compliance for the Company Hull Gauging program. Ensures required NDT and Hull Gauging workmanship training is conducted and documented as required. Performs inspections, attends checkpoints, writes, monitors, tracks NDT & Required reports and test & inspection plans. Ability to work and interface with the customer and Colonna’s employees. Perform other duties as identified and directed. Qualifications: Must have at least 2 years’ experience performing and/or overseeing NDT inspections/program. Must attain Level III certification in NDT disciplines they oversee or as directed. Must fully be conversant with customer codes and requirements. Examples may include but are not limited to NAVSEA Standard Items, ASNT TC-1A, NAVSEA Tech-Pub 271, ABS Classification Rules, AWS, and ASME codes. Must be a AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) Qualification preferred but not required. Must have hands on experience in inspection of structural and steel fabrication covering NAVSEA Tech Pub 1689/1688 requirements. Must have knowledge about welding processes. Examples include but are not limited to SMAW, GTAW, GMAW and SAW. Must have NDT VT, MT, PT and UTT qualification required. Any additional certification is a plus. Must have a minimum 2-5 years of experience in the Ship Repair/ Shipyard/ Dry Dock industry. Must have excellent communication skills, including oral and written, computer literate, effective report writing skills. Must have the ability to maintain a professional demeanor. Must adhere to all safety requirements. Must have regular and reliable attendance. Travel Requirements: Occasional Travel; 25% or less. Security Requirements: Must be able to access Government facilities and be DBIDS eligible. Position requires US Citizenship. Physical Requirements: Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Climb, Reach, Push and Pull, Stoop, Crawl, Kneel, Balance, Lift and Carry various objects and equipment. General shipyard/industrial environment. Work is has physical demands that require frequent movement up to 65% of the time. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there is minimal exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Hear, talk, and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available, but also requires safe navigation and regular partnership with operations teams within shipyard/industrial environments. A considerable amount of time is spent operating a personal computer. Must be able to climb up and down stairs and spend time moving throughout the facility and onboard marine vessels.
