About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for either a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist or CBT Therapist or Psychological Therapist to join our innovative and friendly multidisciplinary team. Our team of experienced clinicians offer a range of specialist therapy interventions to survivors of torture.
If you are aware of the challenges experienced by survivors of torture, and are able to provide trauma-focussed and other targeted therapy, you may be the person we are looking for.
We are committed to clinical development, and offer all our psychological therapists the opportunity to train in EMDR and Narrative Exposure Therapy.
About you
For Clinical/Counselling Psychologist
You must be qualified in Clinical or Counselling Psychology (you will be trained to doctorate level or an equivalent vocational level 7). Additionally, you must have experience of providing trauma-focused therapy in a multi-cultural setting. Freedom from Torture uses evidence-based approaches including trauma-focused CBT, NET, and EMDR, so you need to have experience of using at least one of these approaches.
It is also essential that you are registered to practice as a clinical or counselling psychologist with HCPC.
The role involves developing links and networks with local universities to promote placement opportunities for trainee Clinical and/or Counselling Psychologists. You will also be responsible for offering supervision to trainees.
For CBT Therapist and Psychological Therapist
Due to the psychological trauma experienced by our clients, you must have up-to-date knowledge of relevant mental health and safeguarding legislation. Additionally, you must have experience of providing trauma-focused therapy in a multi-cultural setting. Freedom from Torture uses evidence-based approaches including trauma-focused CBT, NET, and EMDR, so you need to have experience of using at least one of these approaches.
It is essential that you have a qualification in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and are an accredited member of a relevant professional body, e.g. BABCP.
In return, we offer a competitive package, with a generous 30-day annual leave entitlement, and 6% employer pension contribution (minimum 1% employee contribution).
Freedom from Torture is committed to showing the salary for all advertised roles and not negotiating salaries for roles, in light of evidence that this contributes to structural inequality.
Our policy is that all appointments will be at the start of the salary range but successful candidates will have the opportunity to move up the scale over time. The progression up the salary range is reviewed on an annual basis and subject to affordability.
Freedom from Torture is dedicated to healing and protecting people who have survived torture. We provide therapies to improve physical and mental health, we medically document torture, and we provide legal and welfare help. We expose torture globally, we fight to hold torturing states to account and we campaign for fairer treatment of torture survivors in the UK.
Freedom from Torture is committed to its responsibilities under safeguarding, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to a satisfactory DBS disclosure, as well as a need for full employment history and up-to-date employment references.
Freedom from Torture is an equal opportunity employer. People with lived experience of torture or asylum, from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and people with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.
We reserve the right to close the vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applications.
