The project:
Due to continued growth, we have an exciting opportunity for an associate director - design management to join our highways division to specifically focus on complex roadside and tunnel technology programmes.

You’ll be responsible for:
5. Contributing and inputting into strategy development, develops plans and oversees the delivery and manages the achievement of annual business plan to time and budget.
6. Assessing and defining project strategic design management delivery.
7. Implementing and approving consultant appointments across all work streams when contractually required.
8. Building and leading project design team (internal/external) to ensure correct resource is allocated and project deliverables are clear.
9. Partnering with multiple internal and external stakeholders, working in collaboration to (implement strategy/programmes/ initiatives).
10. Managing, influencing & negotiating with key senior stakeholders.
11. Acting as the day-to-day operational manager for any design managers or other design management resource deployed to the project.
12. Leading and presenting management review data/ key performance indicators (KPIs) to senior leadership. Supports business development and work winning activities.
13. Delivering continuous improvements in processes through application of best practices and lessons learned. Drives transformational change. Responsible for ensuring the identification, development, and delivery of relevant training.
14. Ensuring management systems are followed during project lifecycle roles and responsibilities are adhered by. Is the focal point for design issues, ensuring client relationships are managed and maintained.
15. Providing leadership and strategic direction for all design engineering activities to team/s, including external Stakeholders.
16. Working collaboratively towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition and share responsibility for the proactive identification and management of the associated carbon emissions and reductions during the delivery of work.
You’ll need to have:
17. Experience designing highway and/or tunnel technology programmes.
18. Strong Stakeholder management skills.
19. Ability to manage a team.
20. Flexibility to work in either Guildford, Basingstoke, London.
You’ll also have:
21. Membership of RIBA, MICE, CIBSE, CIOB, RICS, CIAT or equivalent demonstrable professional or personal development.
22. Extensive experience in the successful delivery phase of projects and programmes in the highway/ tunnelling technology sector.
23. Deep construction and consultancy expertise.
24. Knowledge of building safety legislation, building standards, construction contracts, professional appointments and health & safety legislation.
25. Leadership and management experience of large, diverse teams.
26. Experience of managing relationships with key senior stakeholders.
27. Knowledge of how carbon and sustainability considerations will shape the outlook of the projects you are working on.
