Key Responsibilities: Conduct thorough inspections and assessments of buildings to identify potential risks, hazards, and defects that could impact insurance claims.
Assess damage from insured events such as fire, flood, storm, subsidence, or other structural issues, providing expert guidance on claim validity.
Analyze building plans, specifications, and construction techniques to ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
Evaluate existing insurance policies and coverage to determine adequacy and recommend adjustments as necessary.
Provide detailed reports and recommendations to insurance companies and policyholders on risk assessment and mitigation strategies.
Work closely with loss adjusters, insurers, and policyholders to assess claims, validate damage reports, and ensure fair settlements.
Investigate and advise on potential fraudulent claims by examining building conditions, historical maintenance, and previous claims history.
Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to develop risk management plans and recommend improvements to building structures.
Stay informed about changes in building codes, laws, and regulations related to insurance coverage to ensure compliance and mitigate risks effectively.
Assist in dispute resolution by providing expert reports and, if necessary, acting as a witness in legal proceedings related to insurance claims.
Qualifications & Experience: Proven experience in building surveying, risk assessment, and insurance evaluation within the insurance industry.
Practical experience in insurance surveying, loss adjusting, or disaster restoration is highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of building construction practices, materials, and safety standards.
Familiarity with insurance policies, coverage assessments, and regulatory requirements in the UK.
Ability to write detailed technical reports and communicate findings clearly to stakeholders, including insurers, property owners, and legal professionals.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
Membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS, CIOB, or CILA) is preferred but not essential.
