The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for the process optimisation of technical manufacturing operations, process change management, 5S, standard work instruction creation, auditing, and capacity planning of value streams. The qualified candidate will have manufacturing process improvement experience and a thorough understanding of fundamental lean manufacturing principles. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer also guides Manufacturing Engineers in their areas of responsibility and provides cover for the Senior Manager, Manufacturing Engineering during their absence.
Main Responsibilities:
* Report on key metrics for the department dashboard and undertake improvement initiatives to enhance performance.
* Provide guidance to Manufacturing Engineers in their areas of responsibility.
* Support factory projects and coordinate resources to suit project scope.
* Develop and deploy manufacturing processes to deliver products through value streams using professional Manufacturing Engineering techniques.
* Deploy new products within the Dundee Manufacturing Centre, ensuring design for manufacturing (DFM) issues are addressed.
* Contribute to a cross-functional team environment with Design Engineering, Production, Procurement, and Planning.
* Work with the Operations team to ensure continued growth in productivity and efficiency by reviewing KPIs daily.
* Plan and implement layouts of the plant and production equipment for maximum utilisation of facilities.
* Apply lean principles to optimise work/process flow and reduce product changeover times.
* Investigate and implement new technologies to digitalise and automate product manufacturing.
* Document standard work, including creation of work instructions and value stream mapping.
* Initiate and lead Kaizen events and manufacturing improvement projects.
* Author formal requests for capital expenditures.
* Positively influence personnel during process changes and successfully manage that change.
* Represent all aspects of production requirements on large-scale projects.
* Be knowledgeable across all areas of manufacturing.
Essential Qualifications:
* Qualifications in an Engineering and/or manufacturing discipline.
* Experience in Project Management (ideally a qualification).
* Show leadership qualities with effective communication.
* Can prioritise tasks based on importance.
* Experience in introducing new products within a manufacturing environment.
Additional Skills and Competencies (desirable):
* Interpretation of engineering drawings.
* Previous use of problem-solving tools, such as 5 Why and A3.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
