Middleweight Interior Store Designer
Location: Malvern, Worcestershire
Salary Expectations: £35,000 - £44,000 Full-time
An excellent opportunity for an Interior Designer, with a minimum of 3+ years' experience, to work on established concepts within the Design Team has come up due to significant growth.
This opportunity allows the successful candidate to predominantly work within an office-based role, focusing on brand roll-out programmes.
This is an exciting opportunity for a talented Retail Interior Designer to bring their energy and passion and play a key role in a busy team to create innovative ideas for retail environments, workspaces, and commercial areas. You will work directly with clients and oversee the development of your ideas with the design team. Formadesign (UK) Ltd is a successful creative agency specialising in retail and commercial brand activation. We work collaboratively to create memorable brand experiences in retail, commercial, and workspaces.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
* Proficiency in AutoCAD, Sketchup.
* A sound knowledge of other programmes including Photoshop and Microsoft Office. Experience with Indesign, Rhino, and Vray is of interest but not essential.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills to present visually appealing work in a clear and confident manner.
* Enjoy the challenge of lateral thinking and problem-solving skills with an ability to improve processes and ways of working.
* Ability to work efficiently within a team on brand roll-out programmes.
* Ability to analyse and problem-solve, adapting existing concepts into different non-standard sites.
* Attention to detail and consistency in drawing work, to produce high-quality drawings.
* Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, working to tight deadlines with a great attitude.
You will have experience in the sector, possess excellent creative and technical skills, be a team player, and be able to manage projects from inception to completion, interface well with clients, and assist in supervising projects on-site. RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Work independently or with colleagues and the Director, attend client and design team briefings, and gather all necessary information to establish the brief.
2. Prepare plan proposals demonstrating a thorough understanding of the client's requirements.
3. Prepare design ideas and concepts.
4. Manage the creative development of drawing sets, renders, etc.
5. Prepare statutory applications and ensure compliance with applicable legislation.
6. Oversee new store approvals processes with landlords and third parties.
7. Manage local authority approvals (e.g., building control and planning consents).
8. Work closely with the Design Director and client lead to interpret briefs and develop detailed elements from initial concept proposals.
9. Collaborate with other consultants to ensure the development of all associated design elements, cost control, co-ordination, flow of information, and programme.
10. Assist in the production of, and direct the preparation of, all construction information including highly detailed plans.
11. Manage and integrate the overlaying drawing layers supplied by external parties (e.g., HVAC, Lighting).
12. Obtain competitive tenders for contract works.
13. Support the production of internal and external design approval packs.
14. Specify and obtain quotations for FF&E and other non-contract elements, ensuring orders are placed as required.
15. Visit and assist with the survey of retail environments, workspaces, and commercial areas, including measurement surveying and appraisal to highlight issues or design changes.
16. Liaise with works on site and continue adjustment and updating of plans throughout planning and build phases.
17. Resolve issues and changes as they occur, recognising the fast-paced nature of the sector.
18. Manage handover processes, record keeping, and statutory sign-off.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
* Minimum BA Hons (or equivalent) in Interior Design, Architecture, or similar.
* Experience in the Retail and Commercial design sector with drawing experience within the construction industry, ideally in a retail/commercial environment.
* Broad design experience from project inception to handover.
* Creative and technical experience including space planning and detailing.
* Good understanding of applicable areas of the Building Regulations, Planning, and other technical standards.
* Confident and efficient in interacting with clients, design team, contractors, and suppliers.
* UK driving license and access to a vehicle preferable.
