Calderdale & Huddersfield Solutions Ltd have an exciting opportunity for Healthcare Science Clinical Engineering Associate.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will primarily carry out scheduled preventative maintenance on a wide range of Medical Devices; however they will also participate in the repair, calibration, safety and acceptance testing. The post holder is required to work to high standards of safety and accountability and provide up to date technical information on medical devices and related subjects to key clinical staff. As a member of the Clinical Engineering service, the post holder will be expected to carry out their duties under direct supervision initially then with limited supervision once deemed competent, whilst following departmental and national policies at all times.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder is a member of a multi-disciplined team of specialist clinical engineers within the Clinical Engineering & Decontamination Service. The post holder will liaise with clinical and technical staff to identify devices requiring maintenance, identify faults and repair equipment accordingly; this will include significant time working in community/clinical/ward areas and occasionally with manufacturers and their agents.

Essential criteria
* Academic electronics/mechanical knowledge NVQ Level 2 or above and Mathematics & English to GCSE A* - C or 9 - 4 or equivalent, all prerequisite qualifications for entry to the NVQ Level 4 Healthcare Science Clinical Engineering
* Or have NVQ Level 4 Healthcare Science Clinical Engineering
Desirable criteria
* Sciences Biology, Chemistry, Physics to A* - C or 9 - 4
* Membership of Engineering Professional Organisation
* Have or be prepared to work towards membership or accreditation with a relevant professional body e.g. voluntary Register of Clinical Technologists
* Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) training in broad spectrum of equipment
* Driving licence Category B
Knowledge & Skills:
Essential criteria
* Excel, Word etc. to set up documents, templates, reports and spreadsheets and use and extract information from databases
* Equipment management databases to maintain asset register and record work done
* Test equipment both general and particular to medical devices
* Fine tools for equipment adjustment, fabrication and assembly
* Work under pressure to get medical equipment up and running whilst patients and staff are waiting
* Provide and receive complex or sensitive information. Communicates technical equipment-related information to staff, colleagues and suppliers.
Desirable criteria
* Knowledge of medical equipment and its application and management and of clinical engineering principles
* Knowledge of electronic workshop and field practices
* Knowledge of electrical and electronic engineering and fault finding techniques
* A good level of understanding of patient and staff risks arising from equipment failure, including reporting of incidents and MHRA Safety Alert distribution
* Working knowledge of relevant legislation, national standards, professional and health & safety requirements e.g. ISO, BSI, IEC

* Relevant experience in electro/mechanical engineering workshop practices and techniques post qualification or equivalent. Experience in device applications, commissioning, preventative maintenance, servicing, inspection, repair, calibration, quality control, safety, acceptance testing and procurement
* The application of workshop technology to Medical devices, equipment and techniques in healthcare
