Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides services within the Northumberland and North Tyneside areas serving a population of 500,000 people and an area of 2000 sq. miles. Laboratory services are located at North Tyneside General Hospital, Wansbeck General Hospital and the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSECH) which opened in 2015 as England’s first purpose-built specialist emergency care hospital, with emergency consultants on site 24/7, as well as consultants in a range of specialities working seven days a week.
We are looking for a qualified, enthusiastic and motivated Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientist.
Candidates should have a flexible approach to working, demonstrate good organisational skills and the ability to work without close supervision.
This post falls within the provisions of Agenda for Change Annex 20 - Development of Professional Roles, whereby upon completion of an agreed set of competencies you may move onto the next pay band without the need for an application for a post at a higher level.

• The post holder will practice as a registered Biomedical Scientist in the Haematology / Blood Transfusion Department, working as part of a team in the provision of a high quality diagnostic service to Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust and General Practitioners. They will also participate in the supervision, training and development of Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants.

This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.
We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. Our UKAS accredited departments are well equipped with Beckman-Coulter DxH900 Unicell track systems. Beckman-Coulter Automated
Sample Sorter, Stago STAR-Max2 coagulation instrumentation, Beckman-Coulter DxI 800s and Alegria Immunoassay platform, Alifax ESR analyser, TOSOH G11 Analyser, as well as the Winpath LIMS system,
Remisol Advance middleware and iPAW sample sorting and archiving systems. The Blood Transfusion laboratory is centralised at the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital providing services to all acute, general and community sites and is well equipped with multiple Ortho analysers, Ortho middleware, Winpath LIMS
system and MSoft blood tracking system.
Although the post will be based at Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital we are one team and you will also be required to work in Haematology at North Tyneside General Hospital and Wansbeck General Hospital. You will work in all sections of Haematology and Blood Transfusion and participate in the 24/7 shift rota at NSECH.
