Location: THE PIG - and The Village Pub, Barnsley, Cirencester, Gloucestershire.
Salary: From £12.14 per hour (DOE) plus service charge.
Hours: Full-time, 45 hours per week. Applicants must be available to cover some rota weekends.

In January 2024, we acquired the 17th century Barnsley House hotel that is tucked away in the quintessential Cotswold's village of Barnsley, just four miles from Cirencester. THE PIG - and The Village Pub offers guests a classic example of an English country garden that evolves with the seasons including a kitchen garden that will supply the produce found on our 25-mile menu.
We are delighted to announce the start of our recruitment for THE PIG - and The Village Pub and are seeking for an Assistant Head Sommelier to join our team.
The Role:
Reporting into our Beverage Director, As Assistant Head Sommelier at THE PIG, you will be free from the traditional image of wine service. We offer an extensive wine list to our guests, from wines across the world, local British produce to our very own PIG offering! We are a company that values wine, with a focus on English Wine having one of the most extensive lists across the U.K.
As Assistant Head Sommelier you will be developing your knowledge of wines whilst working on the floor during our vibrant restaurant service. You will take an active role in leading the team, delivering an attention to detail service to our guests by pairing wines from our traditional cellar and providing recommendations to ensure a memorable dining experience.
You will build your knowledge of local and international brands and start to develop relationships with existing and new suppliers. You will also grow your qualifications by enrolling in various courses and join our PIG Sommelier's for wine team days out, including tastings, vineyard visits and international trips!
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
* Provide a knowledgeable wine service to guests, pairing wines with our food menu.
* Encourage our wine team to provide a detailed wine service, leading by example.
* Hone your craft by demonstrating your skills and knowledge across the team. Conduct briefings and team tastings.
* Ensure wine stock is stored correctly, maintaining a presentable and safe cellar.
* Work closely with our Beverage Director with regards to both the wine list and development of the team.
* Take an active approach in developing your knowledge of wines & spirits.
* Fulfilling additional responsibilities assigned by our Beverage Director.
Skills & Experience:
We are ideally seeking candidates with 2+ years of experience as a Sommelier, or within a similar role. Plus, WSET qualifications or equivalent in wines & spirits. A can-do attitude and the willingness to learn and provide excellent customer service is essential.
