About the role We’re looking to welcome our next Reader Services Supervisor (Evenings and Weekends) to work in the historic Bodleian Old Library and Radcliffe Camera in the centre of Oxford. These iconic buildings house Humanities collections in English, History, Classics, Philosophy, Theology and Reference as well as the History Faculty Library and the Bodleian’s Main Enquiry Desk. You will work at library enquiry and entry desks and provide a knowledgeable enquiry service as well as carry out a range of circulation transactions. Whilst playing a full part in reading room duties you will help supervise Library Assistants on duty. From time to time you will take charge of the site in the absence of the Reader Services Manager (Evenings and Weekends). This is a permanent, part-time position, working on average approximately 9.63 hours per week (0.2637 FTE). The working hours are: One fixed weekday (Wednesday) 4.45pm – 9.15pm One Friday night in four 4.45pm – 9.15pm Alternate Sundays 10.45am – 7.15pm This role involves some manual handling – training will be provided. About You You will be educated to A level or equivalent qualification and have experience in a library or similar environment. You will have excellent communication skills and be able to prioritise tasks and take initiative. You will have experience of instructing staff and a proven ability to perform routine library tasks with care and accuracy.
