Job Summary
We are looking to recruit to cover a year's maternity leave creating an exciting opportunity for an Orthoptist to join our team at York Hospital. The successful applicant will work alongside 3 wte Orthoptists, 2.6 wte Optometrists, and 3 Consultant Ophthalmologists specialising in Paediatric and Adult Motility. York is a large Ophthalmology unit with 23 consultants in total covering all specialities, including Neuro-Ophthalmology.
The successful applicant will also be responsible, depending on experience, for providing an Orthoptic Service to the Children's Centre, liaising with Paediatricians and other AHPs involved in the care of children with additional needs.
The successful candidate should have:
* Diploma/Degree in Orthoptics
* Medicine exemptions for Orthoptists
* HCPC registration
Main Duties of the Job:
1. To work as part of the Orthoptic Team and contribute to a high standard of Orthoptic care within the Ophthalmology Services at the Trust, working to Professional Practice Guidelines and Trust Policies.
2. To work as an autonomous practitioner using evidence-based and patient-centered principles, to provide a high standard of care to a diverse caseload of patients including those with social, physical, psychological, behavioral, and cognitive challenges.
3. To assess, diagnose, treat, and discharge Paediatric and Adult patients attending the Orthoptic Service and provide Specialist Orthoptic advice to a range of patients including those with highly complex conditions.
4. To work as a member of a multidisciplinary team, alongside Ophthalmologists & Optometrists to assess and manage patients.
5. To take the Lead Role in the provision of a Specialist Service in the Children's Centre, assessing and managing children with visual impairment and/or additional needs.
6. To act as a resource within the Department and Trust providing specialist Orthoptic information and advice.
7. To provide training, support, and advice to Orthoptic Undergraduates, junior doctors, pre-registration Optometrists, and other Health Care Professions.
