1 Job title: Playworker - Outdoor Activities
2. Place of work: Garnant Family Centre and Betws Family Centre
3. Terms of contract: Garnant 13 hours per week Betws 6 hours per week (these hours may vary from time to time)
4. Dimensions of the job
Working with other members of the project staff, volunteers, workers from other agencies, and family centre users. The Playworker -Outdoor Activities will, as part of the family centre team, plan, organise, support and develop activities for children and their families. To assist with monitoring and evaluation of the family centre service.
5. Working relations
Internal: Plant Dewi, Family centre Management and staff of both centres, centre volunteers, staff of statutory agencies and voluntary agencies, public bodies and family centre users.
External: Statutory and voluntary organisations and public agencies.
6. Main purpose of the job:
To provide a safe, stimulating environment for children. To plan and deliver organised outdoor play activities for children and their families and provide occasional creche support. To assist with monitoring and evaluation of the family centre service. Provide support to families experiencing different challenges e.g. parenting.
7. Key tasks of job
7.1 To provide a welcoming and safe environment for children and their families.
7.2 To provide children’s outdoor activities that will enhance their lives socially, intellectually, emotionally and physically.
7.3 To provide activities to enable support to families relating to various issues
7.4 To support healthy eating sessions
7.5 To work alongside centre volunteers.
7.6 To be responsible for the planning of programmes, in liaison with the Managers of both Centres.
7.7 To support with regular monitoring and evaluation of sessions
7.8 To take care of the play equipment and be able to risk assess the environment to ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations. To be responsible for lifting and carrying play equipment to different sites in accordance with manual handling procedures.
7.9 In conjunction with the Management, to be responsible for Health and Safety matters within group activities through risk assessment, whilst inside/outside the centre.
8. Qualifications and experience
Relevant qualification in childcare, NVQ/QCF Level 3 or equivalent. Experience of running activities outdoors for children and/or families. A basic knowledge of First Aid and a Food Hygiene Certificate will be desirable or a willingness to attend a course and to take part in any other training relevant to the post. The ability to speak Welsh will be an advantage for this post. A full UK driving license and access to a vehicle is essential.
