Meraki Talent is working closely with a well-known educational body on the position of VAT Manager.
This position can be fully home based depending on the location of the successful applicant but as their main base is in Edinburgh there would be an expectation for them to travel to the Edinburgh office once per month for team building efforts.
The firm:
You will be joining a business consisting of + employees with a growing finance team of 30 professionals - with include procurement, Finance Business Partners, and other financial operations staff such as Finance Analysts, Purchase Ledger, Sales Ledger, Payroll, Insurance, and of course Tax.
This is a fast paced, evolving and highly commercial business with a real entrepreneurial spirit led from the top and is not your typical publicly funded body. The finance team services 3 different businesses lines which include Teaching, Commercial, and Research, with each business line behaving very differently form the other.
The role:
The VAT Manager will play an integral role within the business, partnering with stakeholders across several business lines including Financial Control, Head of Finance, Head of Business, Head of Research, and other members of executive leadership team including the principal on projects and hypothetical aspects and detailed research.
* Manage and oversee all VAT compliance for the business across all separate business lines
* Advising departments and department teams in relation to specific VAT treatment queries
* Business Partner with intercompany teams in relation to specific VAT liability and import/export queries
* Determine appropriate VAT treatment for large capital projects, and agree with HMRC as required
* Ensure timely and accurate submission of VAT returns for all departments within the businesses, including annual partial exemption and other adjustments and corrections.
* Review ongoing procedures for compliance and keep up to date with any changes to the regulations
* Coach and develop the teams involved in processing transactions
* Liaise directly with HMRC on VAT queries
