Job Responsibilities
1. Carrying out evidence-based assessment, intervention, and evaluation of occupational performance needs of patients with physical disabilities. You will assess, provide advice, provide appropriate standard or specialist equipment, refer on for minor adaptations, and liaise with the borough councils and housing associations in relation to major adaptations.
2. Be competent in risk assessments and managing risk autonomously within the home environment.
3. Advise other professionals, e.g. district nurses, carers.
4. Liaise with partner agencies to ensure patients access to environmental adaptations via the Disabled Facilities Grant process.
5. Manage a diverse caseload of patients with complex needs.
6. Understand the nature, aetiology, and expected progression of a wide variety of diseases/disabilities and plan appropriate interventions.
7. Understand the psychological and sociological impact of disease/disability on patients and carers.
8. Provide training and advice on lifestyle changes and adaptations to the physical, psychological, and social environment to meet the occupational performance needs of the patient.
9. Plan and implement individual interventions by setting goals in collaboration with the patient.
10. Attend appropriate specialist courses and cascade training to colleagues.
11. Monitor and support supervisees, e.g. Occupational Therapy Assistants, students.
