The Role
The Headmaster is seeking to appoint an inspirational and high-achieving teacher to join the Business & Economics Department of The King’s School, Gloucester – one of the country’s leading HMC Independent Schools – on a part-time basis (0.6 - 0.7 FTE).
The successful candidate will have a flair for Business & Economics and be well-placed to generate and sustain a high degree of motivation and achievement in all pupils. The post could suit an NQT or an experienced teacher alike, who desires to teach a range of abilities in small classes ranging from 5 to a maximum of 18. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented teacher to play their part in shaping the business minds of the future.
The School
The King’s School is one of the dozen oldest schools in the country and has a proud heritage dating back to at least 1087, with a re-foundation in 1541. King’s is the Cathedral School in the city of Gloucester, whilst the surrounding county is home to many excellent grammar and state schools, as well as other independent schools. King’s is held in high regard amidst this competitive area; our academic, co-curricular and pastoral attainment is second to none. As a result, the last three ISI reports for King’s have all been classified as ‘excellent’ in every area.
The Department
The Business & Economics Department is an energetic, supportive and innovative environment in which to work. We deliver an active, engaging and inspiring course that reflects the demands of an evolving business environment. The Schemes of Work allow for flexibility so teachers can tailor their teaching to their class, ensuring that all pupils make the best possible progress.
Main Duties
* First-class, innovative teaching throughout the School in a manner appropriate to students' ages and abilities;
* Assessing and recording students' progress in accordance with departmental and School policies;
* Attending and contributing to departmental meetings;
* Developing and sharing teaching and learning resources;
* Monitoring the work and progress of pupils, including those with specific learning needs;
* Maintaining professional skills through INSET and the School’s Continuing Professional Development programme;
* Initiating and promoting links with Junior School where appropriate;
* Helping promote partnerships and links with educational organisations outside of King’s;
* Promoting the awareness of relevant career opportunities and experiences for students;
* Producing displays to create an enhanced learning environment;
* Contributing to the extra-curricular life of the School through the Activities and Academic Enrichment Programme or other appropriate commitment;
* Taking part in the pastoral life of the School as a Form Tutor or Cover Tutor;
* Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact;
* Any other tasks or responsibilities that may reasonably be assigned by the Headmaster.
Personal Profile
* A degree related to Business and/or Economics, or experience in the field;
* Experience of teaching at KS3-5;
* Enthusiasm and passion for the subject, the School and the pupils;
* Dynamic, effective teaching strategies that engage all learners;
* Initiative and resourcefulness, able to produce excellent teaching plans;
* Excellent written and oral communication, numerical and interpersonal skills;
* Excellent organisational skills, able to work under pressure, plan and prioritise own workload and remain professional at all times;
* Ability to deliver high standards, accuracy and attention to detail, meeting all deadlines;
* Willingness to undertake further professional development.
Salary
The King’s School offers its own salary scale, details of which can be discussed at interview. The salary will be commensurate with the significance of this role in a leading HMC independent school and will depend on qualifications and experience.
