The role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer in the Facilities Engineering team, you’ll be providing the technical expertise to help develop the capabilities of mechanical services at our Devonport site that support the maintenance of Royal Navy ships and submarines.
Day to day you will act as technical authority for the site utilities at Devonport, such as steam and condensate, water and compressed gases. You can make this role your own, while delivering a high standard of work, including:
1. Designing new & modified systems.
2. Backing up designs with documented arguments, analysis, and calculations.
3. Consulting on the condition of existing systems.
4. Updating design records to accurately reflect the equipment in service.
5. Ensuring that systems meet exacting standards, legislation and nuclear site license conditions.
6. Exchanging technical knowledge with other disciplines to ensure holistic design.
Essential experience of the Mechanical Design Engineer
1. A Higher National Certificate or above in a relevant engineering discipline.
2. Experience of documenting engineering arguments, analysis & calculations.
3. Knowledge of nuclear plant design/operation, and/or;
4. Technical knowledge of mechanical services, such as:
1. Pressure & pipework systems.
2. Steam & condensate.
3. Industrial gases.
4. Water.
The role provides hybrid working arrangements with 1 day onsite and 4 days working from home.
The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
