Main duties of the job
The Role
Be responsible forparticipating in all aspects of the Ophthalmic service at Optegra, includingsurgery. Provide excellent care to all patients, with specific responsibilityfor diagnostic testing, pre-operative assessment, peri-operative andpost-operative care in the surgical and refractive suite of the hospital, andassisting with minor operations.

Use clinicaljudgement and analytical skills to pro-actively identify potential problemsduring the patients clinical pathway that require Consultant Surgeon input.
Work withConsultants supporting them and delivering excellent care to patients duringtheir clinical pathway.
Provide pre andpost-operative instructions to patients carers through effective communicationas part of the clinical competency framework and holistic care of patients.
Provide clinicaladvice for patients, within level of competency.
Administer drugsand treatments as prescribed according to the NMC guidelines for the Standardsfor Medicines Management 2008.
Maintain anawareness of the need to deliver care in a manner which demonstrates dignityand respect, this includes the provision of an appropriate level of privacy atall times.
Ensure effectivecommunication is maintained with patients, relatives, carers, visitors, staffand others.

Help to controland minimise the risk of cross infection by following the organisationsUniform Policy, and all procedures, policies and guidelines for the maintenanceof a clean working environment, including decontamination and sterilisation ofequipment.
Assist with theorganisation of notes and hospital lists to ensure safe and smooth running ofhospital schedules.
Ensure that allclinical documentation is completed legibly and comprehensively to agreedorganisational and NMC standards and guidelines.

Qualifications
* Registered General Nurse
* Current NMC registration
* Experience
* Registered General Nurse
* Current NMC registration
* Minimum one year post qualification nursing experience
* Previous experience in Ophthalmology, Theatre, General surgery or Outpatients
* Safeguarding
* Comply with the Optegras Safeguarding policies, procedures and protocols. All individuals have a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
* Knowledge & Skills
* Awareness of responsibilities in relation to NMC Professional Code of Conduct
* Awareness of role of CQC
* Computer and IT skills i.e. good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
