About Us Warwickshire County Council are responsible for over 55,000 street lights, illuminated signs and bollards, and associated Highway electrical equipment around the County. The street lighting stock operates to WCC’s part-night lighting policy and is controlled by the PLANet by Telensa central management system. One of our main drivers is to reduce our electricity consumption wherever possible and we have been extremely successful in doing so through the implementation of part-night lighting along with an investment in LED lighting and other low energy light sources. The Street Lighting team is a small team that deal with maintenance, lighting on new developments, Highway improvement projects, and the provision of power supplies on the Highway for other uses such as CCTV and festive decorations. We are now recruiting for an Assistant Lighting Engineer to join the street lighting team to primarily work in the Client maintenance function of the service. About the role Joining our Street Lighting team, you’ll be based at Budbrooke near Warwick but home working (except for when required to be on site or face to face meeting) is presently being operated. The post is full time and permanent for 37 hours per week plus being the out of hours duty lighting engineer in a Client role for 1 week in 5, for which an additional allowance is paid. You would be expected to visit sites countywide efficiently using your own transport for which a mileage payment is paid. You will be responsible for issuing orders for the maintenance and replacement of street lighting and associated equipment, including private cable networks, as well as inspecting work and the updating of the inventory; dealing with queries from Councillors, other teams and organisations, liaising with street lighting contractors and DNOs/IDNOs as necessary, and recharging for any work that you carry out that can be recharged, for example lighting columns that are damaged in a RTC. You will be working within a small team of street lighting professionals and teamwork is essential so giving and receiving support for each other is essential. Key Requirements To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have significant experience of working in street lighting maintenance and, as you’ll be managing relationships with a variety of people, it is important that you have strong communication skills, can creatively solve problems and plan your own workload, often working under pressure. You will also have the ability to work within a team as well as on your own initiative and to contribute towards improved practices. It is important you are flexible in your approach to work as priorities can change quickly. The role is based Budbrooke near Warwick and you will travel across the county as the Service requires.
