A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen at the St Catherine's Restaurant at the Royal Hampshire Country Hospital.
The successful candidate will work as part of a team to ensure high standards of food service alongside outstanding customer service.
The post holder will ensure staff are trained and equipped to complete all aspects of their role, and together with Deputy Head of Catering Services, Kitchen Manager and Head Chefs ensure that the restaurant operates as a profitable business enterprise. A flexible approach to work and active supporting of staff through hands-on working is a key requirement of the role.
Main duties of the job
Ensure the day to day smooth, consistent and efficient running of the restaurant team as part of the wider catering service through the supervision and training of staff.
Supporting the wider catering team and supervisory team in ensuring the efficient running of the service.
Ensuring that all areas within the restaurant are hygienic and high standards of cleaning and deep cleaning are taking place and being recorded in accordance with the Food Safety Management System (FSMS) and ensure that the restaurant staff are aware of their obligations, expectations and best practices.
Ensuring items on sale are replenished in a timely manner and that customers have access to the daily menu and allergen information promptly.
Assist with the planning of new menus, and new items and lines of sale.
Maintain the required standards of cleanliness, food hygiene and customer satisfaction.
Monitor the quality of work activities undertaken by the designated team using written and IT based system through audits and working with FOH and admin staff in accordance with target timescales/KPI’s.
Organise, plan, record and ensure completion of daily tasks, function service, vending service, cash handling procedures, deep and daily cleaning, stock control and rotation and wastage and breakage recording.
Manage staff rotas to ensure adequate cover is provided at all times.
Take part in the recruitment of catering staff when necessary.

Essential criteria
1. Recognised Catering Qualification
2. Level 3 food safety or willingness to undertake
3. L2 English and Maths
Experience
Essential criteria
4. Experience of supervising and managing staff
5. Knowledge of COSHH, Health and Safety or willingness to learn and undertake supplementary training.
6. In depth knowledge of food safety and allergens or a willingness to learn.
7. •Experience in working in a customer facing role, delivering a high level of customer service.
Desirable criteria
8. Experience in working in a kitchen/restaurant environment particularly a large scale food production environment.
9. Experience in working in an NHS environment.
